FRANKFORT, KY (Oct. 7, 2026) – Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell issued the following statement on recent executive orders by the Governor and Attorney General Russell Coleman to ease Kentucky's restrictions on the use of dyed diesel on public roads:
"This is welcome news for Kentucky farmers. Thank you to President Trump, Attorney General Coleman, and the Governor for moving this forward."
BACKGROUND:
Last week, Commissioner Shell called for temporarily loosened dyed diesel restrictions and urged the Governor to allow farm vehicles to use dyed diesel on public roads while transporting agricultural products through the remainder of the fall harvest season. On Monday, President Trump signed an executive order allowing off-road dyed diesel to be used on public highways and deferring the applicable federal excise tax.
