CHARITON, IOWA, UNITED STATES, December 4, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — Doctor Matthew Bogard, Board Certified in Family Medicine and Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine, recently completed advanced training presented by the Iowa Bureau of Emergency and Trauma Services with an eye toward providing additional services to EMS agencies in rural locations.

The single day course reviewed Iowa Code governing Emergency Medical Services, types of agencies and classifications of responders, additional resources necessary for Critical Care Transport Services, and the importance of an EMS Contingency Plan. Training was also provided regarding the Iowa EMS provider scope of practice.

According to Dr. Bogard, “Emergency Medicine doctors interact with first responders, Emergency Medical Technicians, and Paramedics on a daily basis. We receive patients they have evaluated and cared for, often providing lifesaving treatments. In many cases, we rely on EMS services to not only transport patients to the Emergency Room but also transfer them elsewhere, sometimes over great distances. It is important to have a strong and supportive working relationship with the Emergency Medical Services departments in the areas you work.”

Seeds for Impact West Africa Programme Launch to Promote Sustainable Agriculture

Stakeholders for Seeds For Impact Programme

Some Seed Growers At the Event

The initiative is a US $60 million programme that seeks to address the funding gap faced by seed companies scaling their seed production for staple crops.

The African seed market has great potential for growth given that improved seed is currently available for less than 10% of total arable acreage in sub-Saharan Africa,”

— Lord Paul Boateng, Board Chair, The AECF.

EAST LEGON, ACCRA, GHANA, December 4, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — The AECF recently launched the Seeds for Impact West Africa Programme on 27th November 2018, at a cocktail reception at Labadi Beach Hotel, in Accra, Ghana. The launch was attended by dignitaries, government officials, development partners and seed companies from across Africa. The initiative is a US $60 million programme that seeks to address the funding gap faced by seed companies scaling their seed production for staple crops.

“It all starts with the seed. We are here because we care about smallholder farmers and Africa. We can make a difference to agricultural productivity in Africa if we ensure that smallholder farmers have access to the best available seeds i.e. improved seeds. The African seed market has great potential for growth given that improved seed is currently available for less than 10% of total arable acreage in sub-Saharan Africa,” said Lord Paul Boateng, Board Chair, The AECF.

Crop yields for the smallholder farmers who dominate African agriculture are the lowest in the world, due in part to limited access to quality inputs and improved seed varieties suitable for the different climatic conditions, soils and production systems across the continent. Improved seeds underpin agricultural transformation and improvements in productivity needed to feed the continent.

“Agriculture is the backbone of Ghana’s economy and about 80% of total agricultural production is attributed to smallholder farmers. We need to look after the smallholder farmers who have put food on our tables for years,” Dr. John Manful, Advisor to Ghana’s Minister of Food and Agriculture.

Current agricultural practices are undermining many African governments goals for food security and productivity of low-cost nutritious food in both rural and urban markets. The Seeds for Impact programme is currently running a competition with initial funding from Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa and Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture to start addressing this problem.

“The competition seeks to transfer in-demand, high-yielding and climate-smart seed, planting material technologies and agricultural innovation to smallholder farmers. This we believe will substantially increase the incomes of thousands of smallholder farmers in Africa and West Africa in particular,” said Daniel Ohonde, CEO, The AECF.

The Seeds for Impact competition was launched on 30th October 2018 and closes on 11th December 2018, targeting seed companies in twelve countries namely Nigeria, Ghana, Mali, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Malawi and Mozambique. Successful companies will be provided with financial and technical assistance ranging between US $250,000 and US $1.5 million. For more information on how to apply for the funding visit https://aecf.submittable.com/submit .

About AECF
The AECF is a development institution which supports businesses to innovate, create jobs, leverage investments and markets in an effort to create resilience and sustainable incomes in rural and marginalized communities in Africa. Launched in 2008, the AECF has mobilized over US $356 million to date, leveraging more than US $658 million in matching capital and improving the lives of more than 16 million people in 2017 alone through jobs and increased household incomes. AECF has so far supported 268 companies in 26 countries in sub-Saharan Africa across 40 value chains in our focal sectors of agribusiness and renewable energy.

Experienced emergency medicine doctor one of very few physicians to complete this important scenario-based lifesaving class

Office of Matthew Bogard, MD (N/A:N/A)

This is an important class for any emergency medicine doctor practicing in rural areas, it was a great review of the mechanics of what happens combined with the hands-on scenario”

— Dr. Matthew Bogard, Emergency Physician

CHARITON, IOWA, UNITED STATES, December 3, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — Doctor Matthew Bogard, Board Certified in Family Medicine and Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine, recently completed an in-depth hands-on course to learn the intricacies of rescuing victims of grain bin entrapment. This often happens when a farmer enters the grain bin while the unload auger is running – typically to address a plugged auger – and becomes stuck in the moving grain.

The class taught the importance of safety tie-off anchor points, how to safely walk on stored grain, and appropriate ways to rescue entrapped victims. If the person is visible inside the top of the grain bin, a cofferdam is built around the victim after first securing them with rope to prevent further movement. Grain is then removed from within the cylinder surrounding the victim until they are able to walk out. When a victim becomes completely submerged, large V-shaped cuts are created symmetrically around the bin and grain is removed as fast as safely possible to reach the victim.

“This is an important class for any emergency medicine doctor practicing in rural areas,” says Dr. Bogard. “It was a great review of the mechanics of what happens combined with the hands-on scenario where I strapped into a harness and helped rescue a fellow classmate from a specially-constructed grain bin simulator.”

Government of Ontario climate plan signals expanded use of low carbon biofuels

Advanced Biofuels Canada applauds the Government of Ontario for stronger renewable fuel requirements and new incentives to expand use of low carbon biofuels.

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA, December 3, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — On November 29th, the Government of Ontario released its Made-in-Ontario Environment Plan with specific climate action initiatives that will require increased use of renewable and low carbon fuels.

Key elements of the climate plan:

1. Renewable content (e.g. ethanol) in gasoline will increase to 15% as early as 2025 under the Greener Gasoline regulation
2. Increased use of renewable natural gas and other lower carbon fuels will be encouraged
3. Large emitters will be subject to emission performance standards
4. A Carbon Trust Fund ($350M) and Ontario Reverse Auction Fund ($50M) will provide financial assistance for emissions reduction initiatives

The plan builds on the amended Ethanol in Gasoline and Greener Diesel regulations that come into effect January 1, 2020.

“With this plan, Ontario continues to address it largest single greenhouse gas emissions source: transportation. Today’s vehicles are using lower carbon, made-in-Ontario biofuels that can reduce these emissions further to meet Ontario’s 2030 targets,” said Ian Thomson, President of Advanced Biofuels Canada. “Building on federal action on liquid fuels, the province is signaling new demand for low carbon advanced biofuels. Sustainable agricultural and forestry crops and residues can provide these biofuels, as can urban and industrial waste streams.”

Advanced biofuels can reduce GHG reductions by up to 115% below fossil fuels.

Thomson concluded, “We applaud the new initiatives to expand use of advanced biofuels in Ontario and look forward to working closely with the Province to implement the Made-in-Ontario Environment Plan measures. Incenting private sector innovation, with a welcome mat to low carbon fuel producers, will be critical to meeting the our climate goals.”

Advanced Biofuels Canada/ Biocarburants avancés Canada is the national voice for producers, distributors, and technology developers of advanced biofuels. ABFC promotes the production and use of low carbon advanced biofuels in Canada, which our members supply across North America and globally. These companies have invested in processing and supply chain operations in Ontario and are actively bringing to market the next generation of low carbon biofuels. Since 2005, ABFC has provided provincial and federal leadership on sound biofuels policies to expand clean energy options, achieve measurable climate action results, and stimulate new investments and clean growth. Mind Commerce sees Asset Tracking Market driven by Increasingly Connected Business Assets

Asset Tracking Market

Asset Tracking Market

Connected Devices Market

Mobile Edge Computing Market

As Enterprise Assets become Increasingly Connected, Asset Tracking enabled Use Cases Grow in Value and Diversity

As Enterprise Assets become Increasingly Connected, so do Opportunities to Track”

— Mind Commerce

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON, UNITED STATES, December 1, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — There is a growing awareness among CXOs and executives regarding the merits of asset tracking, and correspondingly, a marked reduction in friction towards connecting business assets. This is particularly the case for high-value and/or strategic enterprise and industrial assets.

This is driving a global asset tracking market that is anticipated to reach $27.1B by 2023, growing at 14.8% CAGR. Supported by adoption by certain large enterprise users, the North America region will hold the largest regional share within the global asset tracking market at 37.1%.

Mind Commerce sees robust growth for early entrants and fast followers. However, mainstream adoption is restrained largely by implementation decisions involving form factor, asset priorities, and life-cycle support. While costs to implement and operate continue to plummet (due to lower module and electronics, connectivity, and communications services), concerns remain in the areas of physical and logical security.

There is also a hindrance towards in-house implementation. Accordingly, most enterprise and industrial clients look towards a turn-key approach and/or involvement of a systems integrator for initial set-up and commercial M2M/IoT service providers for ongoing support.

Tracking enterprise and industrial assets depends upon connected devices, which represents an IoT sub-market that is rapidly evolving as the number, type, and purpose of devices is set to expand dramatically as asset tracking expands beyond the current state of limited applications, many of which remain silo in nature.

Over the course of the next five years, the global connected device market will support many IoT applications that will become increasingly interconnected. Some of these applications will be enhanced through communication with a so-called “Smart Device”, characterized as possessing intelligence, which can be embedded/stand-alone and/or provided remotely via cloud services.

Legacy carriers will have an advantage over non-cellular IoT operators as 5G is launched. One reason is because of substantially increased IoT network scalability facilitated by 5G and required by an ever-growing number of connected devices.

Equally important, 5G networks will leverage distributed cloud infrastructure via Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) equipment, which will support distributed intelligence for real-time decision making. This means that a given IoT device need not be smart, and in fact, many are relatively unintelligent devices that are typically single-purpose and rely upon intelligence to be provided elsewhere for data processing, analytics, analysis, and dispersal of actionable information.

The Asset Tracking Market report by Technology (M2M/IoT, Edge Computing, Smart Devices), Connection Type (3G, 4G, 5G, WiFi, and WiMAX), Mobility (Fixed, Portable, and Mobile), Location Determination (GPS, RFID, Others), and Industry Verticals 2018 – 2023, evaluates the asset tracking market including technologies, solutions, and ecosystem. The report assesses the impacts of various use case considerations such as technology and solution selection. It analyzes the asset tracking market outlook globally, regionally, and by major country with forecasts by technology, connection, mobility, location requirements, and industry.
